What fractional leadership means
More than advice. Leadership that works alongside the team.
Fractional Clinical UX Leadership provides reserved monthly time from a senior specialist who can help shape direction and get involved in the work. The organisation sets priorities with Gyles and chooses how much ongoing capacity it needs. Commitment to the work is not reduced—only the number of hours is defined.
Set direction
Connect clinical needs, user experience, commercial goals and practical priorities.
Move the work forward
Guide and contribute to research, design, evaluation and key product decisions.
Grow internal capability
Support recruitment, mentoring, coaching, training and stronger ways of working.
The value of senior Clinical UX leadership
Make better decisions today—and build capability for tomorrow.
Clearer strategic direction
Align clinical realities, user needs and organisational priorities.
Stronger research and delivery
Bring experienced guidance and, where appropriate, hands-on support into active work.
Better recognition of risk
Identify potential human factors and clinical experience concerns before they are overlooked.
More equitable experiences
Embed accessibility, health equity and behaviour-change thinking in everyday decisions.
Better-supported professionals
Recruit effectively, mentor and coach UX or product colleagues and strengthen team practice.
Lasting organisational capability
Build repeatable ways of working and reduce reliance on external expertise over time.
AI and responsible innovation
Use AI where it serves people and healthcare outcomes.
As part of agreed monthly responsibilities, Gyles can help teams explore where AI-enabled approaches add value, support human–AI interaction research and design, and bring user needs, clinical context, appropriate oversight and possible harms into decisions. This complements—not replaces—specialist model engineering, formal regulatory or clinical safety assurance.
A smarter team model
Build a stronger team, not just a senior position.
A fractional senior leader working with one or two junior or midweight professionals can give some organisations a wider mix of skills and more direct delivery capacity than relying on a single senior employee.
Gyles can help define roles, interview candidates, guide their work, mentor and coach them, and deliver focused teaching or training within the agreed monthly hours. Extensive bespoke training or recruitment programmes may require separate scoping.
This is one possible team structure. Other staff costs are separate from the fractional fee; total savings or ROI are not guaranteed.
Monthly capacity and investment
Same expertise. Choose the capacity that fits.
All three options can include leadership, mentoring, strategy and hands-on activity. What differs is the amount of time reserved for the organisation each month.

Frequently asked questions
Practical questions about the engagement.
Are 8, 20 and 40 hours per week or per month?
They are per month, not per week. Gyles and the organisation agree how that time is allocated to relevant priorities.
Can the hours include hands-on design or research?
Yes. Monthly capacity can include leadership, research, design, evaluation and practical contribution, as agreed with the organisation.
Can recruitment, mentoring or training be included?
Yes. Recruitment support, interviews, coaching and relevant existing or lightly adapted teaching can use the agreed hours. Extensive recruitment campaigns or bespoke training programmes may need separate scoping.
Could this be more economical than a permanent senior hire?
It can provide senior expertise for a defined monthly cost, particularly when complemented by existing or newly recruited junior-to-midweight colleagues. Total cost and value depend on staffing, workload and organisational needs; savings cannot be guaranteed.
What if priorities change during the month?
Activities can be reprioritised collaboratively within the agreed hours, responsibilities and working arrangements.
How are unused hours and additional time handled?
The engagement agreement specifies scheduling, unused hours, travel and any separately agreed extra hours. Additional work may be arranged at £150 per hour.
Does Gyles take responsibility for formal clinical safety or AI model approval?
Not automatically. Clinical UX guidance can highlight important issues and support appropriate governance, but specialist clinical safety, engineering or regulatory responsibilities require explicit arrangements.
